Tolo Island with Hidden Church
Daskalio is home to the modest church of Zoodochou Pigi (Life Giving Spring) that dates back to 1688. The island is situated right behind Romvi islands and not visible from Tolo beach. Reports say that during the Ottoman occupation Daskalio served as a "secret school," or "kryfo scholeio,". Priests in the "secret school" attempted to preserve the children's cultural heritage by teaching them the Greek language and history in secret. Even though a lot of people visit the island to swim or make pilgrimages to the chapel, Daskalio is still uninhabited by humans today.
