After 23 centuries of silence, the "shell of the Argosaronic Gulf," also known as the Small Theatre of Epidaurus, was discovered in 1971. It has 2000 seats and is situated on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of the ancient city of Epidaurus. In honour of the god Dionysus, it was constructed in the fourth century with the support of wealthy and powerful individuals. During the Roman occupation, it underwent significant alterations. The inscriptions, which constitute a living museum, are one of the theater's most notable features. It is known as "the theatre that speaks" for this reason. This little theatre hosts important musical and theatrical events every July. The "Musical July" program is the most significant. The theatre can be reached by taking a beautiful stroll from the port of Epidaurus to Peninsula Island, then following the trail through the orange orchards. Additionally, you can drive to the little theatre by heading toward the Nissi neighbourhood.
