Nafplio, the first capital of Greece and the capital of the prefecture of Argolida, is a charming city with a rich cultural heritage. Located at the base of two forts, Palamidi and Acronafplia, it now has a population of about 19,000 people and is experiencing an increase in tourism. Nafplio is a 19th-century neoclassical city with a rich history and rich traditions. Visitors are captivated by Nafplio's collection of photographs. Due to its year-round popularity, tourism is the primary source of revenue. The city runs a commercial port that mostly exports agricultural goods from the county's interior. Mythology claims that Nafplius, the son of Poseidon and guardian of Nafplio, constructed the city. The city developed into one of Greece's most powerful naval forces during the Mycenaean era. Nafplio's location made it a popular destination for settlers throughout the Neolithic era. It had access to maritime communications, but most importantly, the steep rocky slope of Akronafplia protected it from any intruders. The city of Nafplio was referred to be a powerful seaport of Argos immediately after it became a founding member of the State Union of Kalavria at the start of the 7th century BC. Pafsanias, who had visited the region, reported that the city was all but deserted in the Roman era.
