30minsA theatre rivalling Epidaurus
Built by Polykleitos in the late fifth century BC, it is located southwest of the Larissa Acropolis. Given that it is one-third carved into the rock, it is a significant architectural achievement. It could accommodate up to 20,000 people when it was at its best. It is regarded as the biggest theatre in classical Greece. It hosted meetings of the Achaean League (Confederation) as well as musical and dramatic competitions. Centuries later, the Fourth National Assembly convened there as too.
