Gorgeous castle overlooking Argos

Located west of Argos, it is said to have been named for Larissa, Pelasgos' daughter. It was built in the sixth century BC, and the foundations of the temples dedicated to Zeus of Larisa and Athena Poliada were found there. The Acropolis was replaced in the tenth century AD by the Castle of Larissa, a mediaeval fortress that currently dominates the hill and was crucial to the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
